In Marvel Comics continuity, Loki is the adoptive stepbrother and arch-nemesis of Thor, the god of thunder and one of the main members of the Avengers.

Although initially primarily a villain seeking to usurp the throne of Asgard and challenge Thor and Earth's heroes, he has shown different facets of his personality over time and has had moments where he has acted more heroically or fought alongside the heroes to face greater threats.
